 2023 Preview

Baldwin County finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Baldwin County finished eighth in Class 6A region one with a 1-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Tigers lost as many games as in any season since 2013. The Tigers hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just one game which followed a 8-4 record in 2021.

The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Baldwin County averaged scoring just 11.3 points a game.

Since 2010, Baldwin County has gone a combined 45-86. Their 34.4% winning percentage ranks 49th in Class 6A over the past thirteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Baldwin County has managed to compile a record of 110-150. Their 42.0% winning percentage ranks 41st in Class 6A and 266th in the AHSAA.

The Tigers are led by head coach Scott Rials who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 12-19 over the past three seasons at Baldwin County. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Rials. His 183 wins rank 19th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Rials' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eighteen times and won five region championships. Coach Rials won a state championship at Elba in 2011.

After a great 8-4 season in 2021 the Tigers are hoping to rebound this season from 1-9 last year. Preston Kiper is expected to start the season at quarterback for the Tigers in 2023.

This season, the Tigers will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region one.

The Tigers open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Foley on Friday, September 1 at Ivan Jones Stadium. Last year the Foley Lions finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in first place in Class 7A region one. The Lions lost in the first round of the Class 7A playoffs to Dothan High by a score of 42-28.

Baldwin County and Foley have met a total of 94 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 39-52-3 record against the Lions. They last met in 2022 with Foley winning by a score of 14-0.
